Program Description

Minerals — their chemistry, crystal structure, formation and alteration — are the focus here, along with the methods used to identify them, from optical microscopy to diffraction analysis. Students learn to link a mineral's internal order to the rocks and processes that produced it. Careers often follow into exploration, mining, materials analysis, environmental testing and research.
